Custom birthday card designed for client and good friend’s special event. Calligrams are words, a poem, or phrase in which a typeface, calligraphy, or handwriting are arranged in order to create a visual image. The words chosen are descriptors of the focus and subject of the card, the client. A silhouette was created, printed on durable paper, and cut out by an x-acto knife. The contour of the hat was chosen because the client was a strong Sherlock and literary fan. Custom hand lettering was done predominantly with a Japanese sumi brush and touched up in Illustrator.
The color and texture of the shimmering, purple paper was chosen to represent a particular dress worn during one of her recent, major performances. Upon the interior of the card was an un-foldable extended message, held up by a manufactured paper latch and a slot created where glue was not applied between the purple card stock and message.
